  12. Dana, that would definately be Stateroom.

    Quarters refer to someone of importance specific to the ship,boat or yacht...as in Captains Quarters...NOT Stateroom, Owners Quarters  OR  Stateroom. Guest Quarters is used sometimes and this is an incorrect association mostly born of flattery and false importance. The proper referance is guest Stateroom or Cabin.

    A Berth is simply a bunk or bed and may be...but most often is not protected by a door or curtain.

    On Private Yachts the Cabin or sitting area below decks can often be referred to as the Salon or Saloon.

    a "Berth" is the BED itself, a "V-Berth" is found in the fo'c'sle, there are Full Berths and Quarter Berths... "Berthing" is a room or "compartment" full of beds.  EVERY "room" or "space" on a ship is called a "compartment"

    "Steerage" is a classification of status...

    I did 15 years on and off US Naval ships, and am a Aviation and Surface Warfare specialist as well as a qualified OOD (Officer Of the Deck).  I then did three years with Princess Lines as a OOD.
