These people are interested in determining what people as a society do or did.  They also look at species of animals with the same interest.  They would look at what people have left behind, what they bury with their dead, documents that are left, etc.  They watch animal communities as they migrate or don't, breed, fight for power in their herds, etc.  If you are interested in sociology, this would be fascinating for you.
