What is appropriate clothing to wear in Guadalajara Mexico?

I am heading to Guadalajara, Mexico for the next six weeks to work in an orphanage. What is appropriate dress for September-October weather? (I am an 18 year old female.) I have heard that most people don't really wear shorts. Any advice would be helpful. :)

I go to Guadalajara every summer for 3 weeks. I actually just returned from GDL. You will love it there. Now for the dress code, I dress more on the conservative side. Since Mexican men can be a bit outspoken and tend to stare a bit at women in general, I stay away from wearing clothes that is too revealing to avoid unwanted attention. It is usually warm to hot in the mornings and rains in the afternoon-night. I would take light jackets, comfortable shoes, some semi-casual attire for Sunday afternoons, and some nice tees for the week. Guadalajara is a cosmopolitan city, they're used to seeing crazy Americans dressed in all manner of attire.  You'll probably encounter other American dressed in shorts.Mexican women don't wear shorts for the most part, but younger teens do.

The biggest caution would be: "Don't dress s**y."  That may attract much more male attention than you want.

Most Mexicans try to shield themselves from the sun. For you take a variety of clothes for hot & chilly (sweater or light jacket) weather. Don't drink the water,  including ice cubes & watch for food's washed in water.

I just came to gdl this week. About the weather, it rains very suddenly and for short periods of time. Maybe think twice about wearing expensive shoes. But don't wear rainboot cuz you will look like a "fresa."

It's very overcast and pretty temperate. Usually not hot or cold, sometimes on the warm side. I usually carry a light jacket with me.
