  1. Archaeology is a branch of Anthropology, so you're question in flawed.

  2. Anthropology is the study of humankind.  It is the study of language, culture and physical attributes form dawn of man til present.  Archeology is the study of old things in the ground, not necccessarilly human.

Archeology- where things used to be

Anthropology- where things are, why theyre like that, and where they are headed.

Understanding Archeology helps to understand anthropology

Anthro - greek prefix for man (lit. male version of man, but not really)

archeo- greek prefix meaning old, ancient, as in archaic

  3. In the United States, archaeology is a branch of anthropology.  We study human cultures of the past by examining their material remains.

In Europe, archaeology stems from a historical approach rather than an anthropological approach, though that is changing in some areas.

If you're looking at things in the ground that are not the result of human activity, you're not an archaeologist.  You can be a paleontologist (studying fossils) or a geologist (studying rocks).
