What is art? (how can you consider something as an art?)

An artist picks up a piece of driftwood in the beach and displays it in his gallery. Is it art?

ART means the activity or skill of producing paintings, photographs, etc that are produced using their skill and imagination. A piece of driftwood in the beach...which artist can create it as a "craft", using his creative mind and skill convert an awful driftwood into a useful decoration - displays at his gallery.....it is an ART.

A very good example, people using dead seashells to decorate their gallery(SPA, toilet, dining hall,....etc), or a mountain rock to decorate their garden.... it is ART.

art is basically expression, so it can be very broad

Yes. Art is different to everybody. Art is basically what a person considers something beautiful, intriguing, etc. A good example is some guy painted with vomit. But everybody who viewed it and commented said it was "art". Basically the term is loosely used and can mean anything. Once again, it depends on the person

i believe that art must be made by the artist and not simply picked up. it must have some meaning or deeper underneath the cover purpose. it can also be just part of the artist's figment of imagination. it can also be something made out of emotion.
