What is at the centre of the earth?

I have read about the centre of the earth being a quartz crystal how possible is this. Surely the temperature would be so great no crystal could form. Claims have been made it has been detected with ultra sound.

  1. i thought it was molten iron and stuff?

  2. Everything I read and heard in science was that the center is made op of nickel and iron

  3. the inner core is made up of stuff like crystal iron, nikel

  4. lava, molten rock

  5. The inner core of the Earth is a primarily solid sphere about 1220 km in radius made of nickel and iron and  hotter than the Sun's surface.

The outer core is made of the same material but since the pressure there is less it is a liquid.

  6. I think it's molten iron, and maybe (although this may be going a bit further from the centre) liquid hot magma.

  7. molten iron its heavyer than other rocks n stuff so it will go to the centre

  8. insanely hot molten iron

  9. h**l is at the center of the earth

  10. The inner core of the earth

It is a solid mass of molten metals, mostly nickel and iron. Surrounding it is the liquid outer core made primarally of the same material. The inner core, though hotter is solid because of the higher pressure

  11. The core is composed mostly of iron  and is so hot that the outer core is molten, with about 10% sulphur. The inner core is under such extreme pressure that it remains solid.

  12. Deep inside the Earth, spinning in a watery pool of iron, the Earth's core is a giant iron crystal slightly smaller but more dense than the moon. Beyond that, the substance at the heart of our planet always has been a mystery.

  13. no it is a ball of molten lava

  14. Earth has a molten Iron core. The movement within the core gives the planet it's magnetic field.

  15. It is molten dense metals, e.g. iron and nickel.
