  1. The USA supports the Burmese Democracy movement, which the ruling Junta violently opposes.  I think you would find that the average Burmese citizen doesnt dislike the US at all, and many would appreciate the US's stance against the Junta.  Its just their dictators that dont like the US.


  2. because native american indians looked more like burmese then the whites and the whites basically stole/defrauded the natives out of everything.  So basically european behavior is the cause of the hostilities.

In 1988, a military group took over the country.  This made relations with the US bad, since then they do what they can to limit reporting on the terrible abuses they commit against the Burmese people.  They don't want aid going into the country because the people will talk about how terrible the government is.  The extent of the disaster makes it hard for the government to control access to information, but they are trying to by stalling and limiting anyone trying to get in.
