What is a- capsule, cell wall, chromosome, plasmid, pilus, plasma membrane, and flagelle, in bacteria

  1. Capsule - a sticky layer that surrounds some prokaryotic cell walls, protecting the cell wall and sometimes helping to glue the cell to surfaces.

    Cell Wall - A protective layer outside the plasma membrane in some cell walls.

    Plasmid - A small ring of DNA that carries accessory genes separate from those of a bacterial chromosome.

    Pilus - A long, hair-like prokaryotic appendage that functions in adherence or in the transfer of DNA during conjugation.

    Plasma membrane - The membrane at the boundary of every cell that acts as a selective barrier, regulating the cell's chemical composition.

    Flagellum - A long cellular appendage specialized for locomotion (movement).  


  2. You mean like what elements it is made up of?  This is a really interesting question!  Mostly CARBON!  :)
