What is basic differences between Pool, snooker & billiards?

The term "billiards" is a all-encompassing term for all cue sports.  Pool (A.K.A pocket billiards), snooker and carom games each fall under the category of billiards.  Today people often refer to billiards only in terms of "carom" games.  Carom games are the games played on the tables without pockets.  The most popular carom game is called "three-cushion billiards".  Pool and snooker are both games played on tables with pockets.  As stated earlier, snooker tables are larger than pool tables, and have smaller pockets.  These are the basic differences.  There are more, but this is a good place for you to start.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

pool shoots balls in to pockets on your familiar 7,8, or 9ft tables, snooker uses a larger table and different balls for points, and billiards is on a table with no pockets and three balls.

In addition, the jaws of a snooker table pocket are rounded while the jaws of a pool table pocket are pointed.  Snooker uses smaller balls than pool too.
