Does it mean having to help the handicapped people or just sick kids?

  1. If you want to help the handicapped, then think about being a therapist.

If you want to be sick all the time because your patients are, then think about becoming a pediatrician. Both are specialty fiends so first you will have to study to be a doctor and then stay in school 2-4 years more for your specialty. Good luck with your decision. Total school time = 8 to 10 years.

  2. And what might a Pediatrition be?

  3. A pediatrician is a doctor that specializes in people under the age of 18.

  4. You do four years of college, then four of medical school, then a year or two as an intern, then 1-3 years as a medical resident. After that, you start a practice. You will have to work with patients of all ages, diseases and conditions while you're in school and interning.

Once you become a pediatrics resident, then you'd work only with children. But some of those kids are handicapped, deformed, have birth defects, etc. You are going to have to deal with whatever comes your way. It's not just kids with colds and sore throats.

If you're interested in anything medical, and handicapped people scare you, you have to decide whether you want to overcome that fear or not. If you do, or if you want to at least try, then read about how handicaps occur. Read about kids with cerebral palsy, or mental retardation. Read about how people just like you sometimes end up in wheelchairs from accidents or diseases. Look at the pictures until they don't scare you. Then dare yourself to go meet some of these people. Maybe volunteer in a classroom for special needs kids, or at the hospital.
