Question:

What is being taxed!?

Many climate change, or global warming deniers constantly say that we are being taxed because of global warming. Well what is being taxed!! There is nothing to my knowledge that has an extra tax added on to its price or any government issued tax for global warming, when infact the government offers incentives (including cash) for choosing green options!

So if you would please provide a creditable source that there is some sort of GLOBAL WARMING tax.

  1. Carbon taxes on gas is already going to go into effect where I live.  And there's already proposals for general "carbon taxes" on businesses and commuters.

This is such a scam and it's so wrong when people are already losing their homes and struggling to pay for food, transportation, and everything because of price inflation.  When water and electricity demand goes down because of this, energy and water suppliers respond with higher prices.  This goes against the the law of supply and demand but they can do this because they're providing something that people can't simply do without.

Edit: I agree--that's why prices should have gone down when supply exceeded demand, not go up.

Here's what I was referring to:

    The Real Story

It's the story that everyone is trying to bury. It's the story that everyone is trying to spin. It's the story that the media doesn't want you to know.

    It's The Real Story:

    Offsetting Your Guilt

One byproduct of the global warming mania is what I like to call the "Green Rush." It's kind of like the gold rush, except this time, everyone is trying to spend a fortune instead of making a new one.

The most obvious example of the Green Rush is the whole "carbon offset" phenomenon. This is usually where people who don't want to personally sacrifice instead decide to just give money to a company that does something - whether it's planting a tree or saving a polar bear - to offset their CO2 emissions.

While that sounds like a great idea in theory, the Real Story is that while these offsets may make people feel good; they often don't do much good. For example, it's become stylish these days to say that you've "gone green," so last year the Academy Awards decided to give each presenter and performer a statue that represented an offset of 100,000 pounds of carbon, which they said was the amount of emissions for a typical Hollywood celebrity in one year.

Sounds great -- except that when you follow the money, you see that it went from the Academy, to a third party company called TerraPass, to a variety of projects, one of the largest being a garbage dump in Arkansas. But here's the problem: that dump instituted a program to cut their methane emissions years ago -- way before TerraPass ever started giving them any cash. So the extra money isn't "offsetting" anything, it's just lining the pockets of the dump's owner, which happens to be Waste Management, a $3 billion dollar company.

In fact, when Business Week did a story about this last year, they called the developers of six projects who had received money from TerraPass. Five of them said that they were doing the projects anyway; that the offset money was just, quote, "icing on the cake."

I've said this before but I want to say it again: I care deeply about our environment. I believe we all have an obligation to leave this Earth no worse than we found it. But I also believe that the hysteria over climate change has created a situation in which well intentioned people are being easily separated from their money. After all, for companies that aren't so well-intentioned, the "green rush" isn't really about pollution; it's about profits.

  3. Maybe I can help you understand---

    1. The cost for remediation of 50% of the CO2 air concentration is estimated to be 45 TRILLION dollars--

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080606/ap_o...

Those monies will need to come from tax dollars-- from various world governments.

    2. Carbon credits-- Company a generates CO2 and BUYS carbon credits from Company B (somewhere in the world) that has them to sell because they have renewable energy or have been designated as a developing country)--- Company A raises their prices to cover the cost of their carbon credits-- (please don't say I have no proof this will happen-- it's called "trying to make a profit" ) They will NOT just absorb the additional cost.  This is also an indirect tax on consumers that buy from Company A.

and   http://newsbusters.org/node/10989  please don't flame me for the source -- just read the article as it describes possible dangers with a carbon credit market collapse-- and just who is getting BIG credits piled up.

    and

http://www.michiganfarmbureau.com/farmne...   see it gets into everything even farming -- get paid for not planting, or planting trees or no-till farming------ fields taken out of production WILL impact food supplies(amount and price )

If this catches on virtually everything you purchase from a plane ticket to an ipod will have a carbon "tax" added.

Brandon-- ITS TAX money-- yours and mine-- governments do NOT produce anything they only take money from their populace and redistribute it "for the greater good" . I find it particularly tragic that countries like Russia China and India with massive pollution problems have "carbon credits" already accrued.

  4. "global warming tax" nice .... mabey there will be another American revolution ..... the first one was started by none other than taxs..... mabey this will push Americans over the edge

  5. dude, give it time ! they are just ramping up by brainwashing the dummies.should obama get elected, the taxes and bleeding will start. you should check out http://globalwarmingheartland.org  the free world runs on oil,the USA has more oil than the middle east.time for an oil revolution ! http://americansolutions.com/drillnow

  6. Have you not heard of Cap and Trade? This is being proposed by the government. It would be a tax on energy production (they like to call it something else). By reducing the CO2 credits (whatever these are) available, they will in essence be taxing energy production and the production of every thing which needs energy to be made. Many of the taxes are currently in the proposal stage. That is why we must shut it down before they are enacted.

The UK has already started to implement the taxes and the results are in.. the poor get hit the hardest.

Also, in the USA, the preliminary solution to AGW was to increase bio fuels (I said this would be horrible before it was even implemented). This has results in food prices sky rocketing and also increased gas prices. This may not be a "tax", but it sure has cost all of us a lot of money (in addition to harming the planet).

So think about this. Bio fuels was only the beginning of our attempt to save the world. It has caused riots, increased deforestation, and increased food prices. Just think about the consequences when we "get serious" about this joke called AGW.

  7. Who sells carbon credits. How can I get in on the scam

  8. well, i am a global warming denier and i think they meant, liberails giving there money to the global warming case, so, its not really a tax, its the people who call u and then u donate money to global warming, which by the way is helping to pay for their lobster

  9. The province of Quebec has had a carbon tax in place for over 2 years,  Norway and Sweden  have carbon taxes.

The total tax being raised in all of those jurisdictions is no higher as a result of those taxes.

It seems that what is driving the amount of total tax taken is government spending and debt retirement. It has little to do with what is being taxed.

However, carbon tax does produce some redistribution of taxation, as some people manage to avoid tax by avoiding purchases that incorporate carbon tax, while others have no way to make that change readily.

Carbon taxes should decline as people use less carbon. Norway is seeing negligible reduction, while Sweden is seeing more significant reduction.  Quebec's carbon tax is fairly narrowly based, so revenues appear to be going mostly to debt reduction.

Canada has much higher tax on gasoline and diesel fuel than does the USA. Canadians, however use more fuel per capita than do Americans.

No, in general we do not label our fuel taxes as global warming taxes, but if we did, there would be screams of agony. Some people do not want to pay any share of the national debt. They were too young to have contributed to much of that debt.
