I´m a retired U.S. Naval officer living in Malaga Spain. My advice goes beyond your question... Dont book your hotel stay the way most tourists do, do it the way the Spanish do it.  All travel agencies in Spain sell hotel coupons (such as Bankhotel or Travelplus) good at hundreds and hundreds of 3 and 4 star hotels throughout Spain.  These vouchers come in books of five for €250 (€50 per night).  Use them and youll enjoy 4-star hotels for less than the price of a 2-star.
