  4. Let me see if I understand.  You are over 60, have served in the military (?), have no savings, and have a dependent child.  That is a tough situation.  Though you have no savings, I'm thinking you must have a military pension.  And if you, at age 60 something,  have a dependent child, I'm thinking the child must have a disability.  I'm thinking there must be SSI or some kind of support available for a disabled person.  Now you're asking what's the best business?  You want to go into business for yourself?  Pardon me if I'm misinterpreting your question, but you didn't explain your situation very well.  Also there are so many factors, like where you live, etc.  I'll just throw out a couple ideas.  Have quality storage units installed on your property and rent storage space.  It requires little maintenance, and you won't have to travel around much.  Or, start a doggy day-care.  Again, you can do this at your home, and there seems to be an increasing need for this.  If you can get a loan to open a larger business, I would recommend a gas station - practical, straight-forward, and demand is consistent.  I have a feeling, however, that you are not really in a position to take that on.  Being in your 60's, it may make more sense to focus on frugality and try to organize your life to make it more manageable than take on more risk.  Why are you set on starting a business?  If you just try to find some old job, you may not make a lot of money, but I think you may have more stability in the end.  Maybe if you have a disabled adult child, it is impossible for you to work away from home...  I don't know what your situation is.  I came on here in the middle of the night, having insomnia, and decided that I would try to help someone.  Your question caught my eye.  I don't know if I'm of any help, but I'll say a prayer for you.  Best wishes.
