Question:

What is best for greek islands - book ahead or just turn up?

I'm flying to greece tomorrow for two weeks island hopping. I'm on a pretty tight budget and can't find many reasonably priced places to stay, so I haven't booked places for some islands I'm visiting. Is it more expensive just to turn up and hope, or should I book ahead for the cheapest places to stay? I'm not bothered too much about having a nice room (balcony, etc), but it does need to be clean and tidy!

  1. Depending on the islands you will visit, most likely you will be approached by people right on the waterfront with rooms for rent offers. Most of them may be legal even though their approach may not be. Anyway if you are not met by them, you can always look around and find something that can be to your expectations. Signs of  rent room places are all over .

Good to check before committing to any of them. Usually are clean and tidy places and is up to you to sustain that quality.

  2. You'll be fine at this time of year - it's August which is h**l to find a room.

Try and find a person who's just renting out rooms - (normally illegally) and you'll pay very little for it.

  3. Take a look around before you rent a room. As Asimenia suggested, off the books is best, and you can haggle. and not knowing what's ahead is always more exciting!
