  1. i would say wood shaving but i wood ask a petstore which is better cuz newspaper is a little wet and that can kill the hamster

  2. Everyone says that Aspen is the only acceptable wood shavings.  That is absolutely not true.  I have many small animals and I use pine shavings with all of them and they have never had one problem with it.  They are all really healthy.  I used kiln-dried pine.  The best bedding is Carefresh which is a little more costly.

  3. I prefer to use wood shavings, it absorbes his `stuff´, is clean and I think my hamster likes it.

  4. I wouldnt use the newspaper. The ink could be messy and stain the hampster and might be toxic if eaten. Also the p**p might get squashed into the paper and make an even bigger mess. I use carefresh bedding and havent had a problem yet with any respitory problems.

  5. Aspen shavings are the only acceptable wood shavings to use with small animals.

Shredded newspaper.. I've never used it. I would worry about the ink staining the hamster's paws, or him ingesting the ink.

If you don't want wood shavings, you should try Carefresh or, even better in my opinion, Yesterday's News.

EDIT: I consider pine, even kiln-dried (which I do consider much better than plain pine, of course), an unnecessary risk. Why use it when there are safer options that no one is claiming cause problems?

  6. Wood shavings but only if they are aspen. Never pine or cedar as they damage an animal's respiratory system and liver.
