Question:

What is best way to give my kittens away?

My cat has given birth to 5 kittens. They are now 6 weeks old and i have homes for 4 of them to family members. One is staying with us. We can't keep all 5 unfortunately due to expenses of jabs, food etc but we know they are going to good homes. Its getting very close to time for them to go but it makes me feel like social services taking kids away from their mum. What is the best way to hand them over to our family members? Do we let the mum see them going? do we give all 4 away at the same time? or is it best to hand one over a day etc....looked on internet and can't find any information. Anyone with any advise that will make it easier on the mum...Thank you

  1. A good way to get rid of kittens is to advertise them in a newspaper. Or you could always take them to an animal shelter that will keep them there and not put them to sleep. Pet finder.com is always a good way to get the kittens a good home. THe best part about Pet finder is they interview the family to make sure the animal is ensured the best care. Plus, lots of people that go on pet finder are looking for cats. So the chances of them being adoupted are high. Well the mom shouldn't see her babies. My cat ran a way after she had kittens. But if you cat is a house cat the nIit would be fine to let her see them go. The best way to hand them over to other family members is to make sure that they are ready for the kittens. Sometimes kittens need a few weeks to adjust to their new home but they soon learn to like and even love it in time. With some cats it is better to hand them over one at a time with others you can hand them all over at once. What we did with my cat is we handed them over one at a time so the mother got comfortable with them leaving.

  2. Personally i would wait one more week and give one away about every two days

  3. hmmm... i think you should eat them.

  4. just let them out the back

  5. congratulations on finding homes for your new babies. They should stay with their mom for atleast 9 weeks. Then one at a time I would think would be the best idea. She might look for them but she will figure it out and she will be fine. So let her see them being held and then dont force her to watch but dont remove her from the area either.

Im soo suprised at how little people read of the questions before answering....pathetic...

  6. It's really best to keep them with their mom cat until they're 8 weeks old.  But when they do go, I think the mom is actually pretty relieved to see them go.  She's nursed them and cared for them, and knows it's time to send them along.  And some mom cats are even starting to get extremely short tempered with the kittens by the time they go home.  I don't think mom will have a problem, but it sounds like you might miss them when they go ;o)  I'd probably give them away one at a time, in plain sight of mom.  I think they comprehend a whole lot more than we give them credit for, and she'll know that they are going to their new home (ok - call me the crazy cat lady but I do believe this).

Please get mom spayed when her babies are weaned, then you won't have to worry about finding homes for any more babies.

  7.            You should put a price in a newspaper and people who are serious about having a kitten that they would care for will contact you. You do not even have to charge them in the end but its just to filter the bad people out.

  8. I would be inclined to keep them for a few weeks more, then give them away one at a time, when mum isn't looking.

I'm really pleased that you're giving them to family members, that way you'll know they'll be loved and cared for properly.

Keeping one for yourself (and with mum) might soften the blow for her.

It is surprising how many people don't read the question properly.

  9. did anyone who answered this question even read that they have homes for all of them and the question is how to actually take them from the mom, not who to give them to???  people should take a moment to actually read the question.  It wont bother mom a bit to have all four of the baby's go at once.  she is done taking care of them anyways and she doesn't have that attachment like people do.  Besides you are keeping one for her so she will probably appreciate only having to deal with one baby instead of five.

  10. put them on petfinder.com

  11. advertise them on www.pets4homes.co.uk its free to put ads on

  12. put them petfinder or get them to a GOOD animal shelter

  13. Take them away from her the day before including the one you are keeping. Keep them in the house just in another room so the mum can hear and smell them then when the other four go let her have the one you are keeping with her, this will seem good because the day before she didn't have any.

  14. I know how you feel when it comes to giving away the kittens because i faced a similar situation just  months ago.  I gave the kittens to their new owners the same day (thats all 5 kittens with the mother present) thats just so the mother would know where her kittens have gone.  along with that you get to worry much less.   Hope it helps!

  15. I have had a situation like that happen to me before. Usually I would just give them all away on the same day. The Mom will be ready for them to go anyway.

  16. for the mum , let them go one at a time . And cats dont need emotional endings lol dont make them watch each other leave.

  17. you should keep atleast 1 kitten for mommy cuz its kinda sad on her. and imagine if some one gave you children away

  18. i want a kitty

  19. You've all missed the POINT!!

Take all four away at the same time.

  20. craigslist.org its free and very popular here, are you in uk or assie?(mum) i dont know about there but i know craigslist is worldwide

sorry do it all at once like a vaccine just have to get it over with

  21. Cats don't have emotional attachments to their babies.  She'll be just fine.  As far as how to get rid of them, kittens get rid of themselves.  If you put a sign out or even put an add in the paper, people will come flocking.  They are so cute!!

  22. give them to relatives or give them to an animal sheltar

  23. give them away put them in yous local shaelter and put them in the news paper or www.petfinder.com

  24. Try one at a time.say a day at a time.Nice to see you have arranged good homes for the kits.so many people dont bother,,

your also having mum & her kitt spayed .Good.

  25. Give them away to a local animal shelter or give them to a trusted friend.

  26. don't give them away - put them in a bin bag and lob it into a local river

  27. put them on lsn.com

  28. Mama Kitty will be greatly relieved.

  29. put up flyers :)

  30. Find LOVING homes--then get your cat spayed!!!

  31. Personally I think its best to let a couple at a time go but as she is going to be keeping one you can do it over 2 or 3 days instead of taking the week. I agree, letting them go makes you feel wicked and I dislike the way some breeders get rid of all at the same time.

    Best of luck
