  1. Let someone give you an actual answer, unlike the 1st 3........first off scooters are becoming more popular, I know. I work for a motorcycle training school and this past year alone we have had at least 4 scooters per class....if not a full class of scooter riders.

Now for which 1 is better, that really depends on the person. Both have the same risks involved. Personally I own a motorcycle and a scooter. Now my scooter is not no little thing either, its a 500cc X9.

  2. Like some of the above, I would say it depends on what reason you have for getting either one. While I don't have any experience riding motorcycles, I picked a scooter since I do the majority of my travel in town and scooters tend to have more options for hauling stuff (its fun turning heads with a watermelon on the luggage rack albeit a bit dangerous if not secured properly) plus the fact that I don't need to shift has likely permanently spoiled me. If I had to commute on highways daily a scooter would be out of the question unless I got one over 500cc. Motorcycle or scooter, either option was better than driving my 15 mpg truck, not a fun reality when you have to figure out if its worth the cost in gas to go do something.

  3. I'm not sure why so many motorcyclist are so insecure about scooters. I guess some folks can only claim their manhood based on what they ride.

Motorcycles are fun but less practical. There are more of them around but you will find many people that ride them are only weekend riders.

Scooters are fun but more practical. You get more storage, better gas mileage and if you are riding in traffic with most of them you don't have to worry about constant shifting.

It really depends what you plan to do with it.

Best people to ask are people that ride scooters. You will find most motorcyclist don't know c**p about scooters. Most scooter riders I know also have motorcycle experience.

Scooter aren't necessarily automatics, nor do all motorcycles necessarily have manual transmissions.

As for speed a Burgman 650 will beat a lot of much bigger cruisers. I will put my 400 scooter up against most cruisers riding twisties through the mountains. They aren't going to beat sport bikes but then I don't have to curl up in  a fetal position to ride either.

As for resale (if for some reason you are buying a bike for resale) scooters numbers have been limited so resale tends to be quite good. I just sold a scooter that I bought new and rode for 8 months for quite a bit more than the original purchase price.

I just bought a Honda 600cc motorcycle, a month old, with 400 miles on it for $2000 less than the original purchase price.

  4. Totally depends on what you want to do, but usually a motorcyle is capable of being more versitile.

  5. depends

    heterosexual: motorcycle

    metro/homosexual: scooter

  6. Both these guys are nailing it on the head but just think about it.

Your tooling around on your motorcycle and see you a grown man on a scooter.

    Do you laugh?

    Yes....

  7. do u want  to save gas and be g*y :scooter

do u want to be cool and save gas :motorcycle

  8. First of all there is nothing g*y about a scooter might be  for sport bikes as they have to show off all the time. It depends on what you want it for and where you will do most of your riding and if you want a auto or Standard. If  you are looking at scooter I recommend Kymco their scooters are rated highest next to Vespa and  Piaggio. And motorcycles look at Kymco or Hyosung they both are excellent manufactures and priced right. They have many models to fit what you might want to do. By the way Kymco is the one they trade Burgmans in on

  9. I had a couple different motorcycles before I bought a scooter. The motorcycle was fun for rural twisting roads, but then I moved into an urban area. With the stop, go, and stop some more traffic in the big city, the scooter's CVT (auto transmission) makes my commuting a lot more fun. You might want to take your environment into account- Are there a lot of traffic jams? What's the top speed on your normal commute?... Lots of traffic jams mean a lot of time using the clutch. Must be why people don't ride motorcycles in downtown Chicago much.

  10. It really depends on what YOU want.

I wanted a scotter at first just because they are less expensive. But my husband said I would look g*y if I did. So he bought me a street bike over the weekend. I have noticed an increase in both on the roads with gas prices getting higher & higher.

    Good luck with your decision.

  11. We all ride motorcycles, and now we're going to tell you that we have lived our lives counter to what we believe, and now tell you that scooters are the way to go.

  12. There is a much larger motorcycle market than scooter. This relates to opportunity. Greater selection when you buy ( new or used) and greater opportunity when you sell. Most scooters are automatic and for some this is desirable. Learn to ride a cycle and buy a cycle, you will be glad you did.

  13. depends on what you want to do with it . the fun factor will be about the same. versatility wise the scooter wins hands down. How many bags of groceries you gonna haul with an mc? my personal best on my scoot was 4 plus a bag of charcoal on the floorboard.Even ridin in the rain is nicer on a scoot. The legshield does exactly that. If youre lookin to go fast  then get a bike.I youve got a small p***s get a crotch rocket,J/K on that one I ride around on weekends with a buch of rocket riders they get just a little pissy when when we stop somewhere and I hand out drinks cuz i use the storage as a cooler when we ride.
