  1. it depends what your going to do with it. do you plan on watching a lot of tv then LCD. if you only want it to watch the big sports games and some movies then plasma. if your watching tv in a bright room then LCD. if your about image quality then plasma. if your on a budget then get LCD. or you can just go to best buy or some other electronics store and ask someone in the tv section to help you choose.

  2. I personally have a plasma tv and love it. Hope this link helps.

  3. plasma

  4. i think plasma's much better.. ^_^

  5. It depends on your needs but my personal preference is still good plasma over the best LCD because of a few factors: a.)better black level reproduction (which gives the image a sense of depth instead of just being flat), b.)better color saturation and c.)better motion reproduction.

The old reservations about plasma (low life expectancy, image burn-in, highly reflective screen) are pretty much eliminated on current designs.  Panasonic's new panels (for example) are estimated to last 100,000 hours until they reach half brightness (around 50 years of TV watching, 6 hours a day), and if you calibrate the set properly (take it out of the default "vivid" or "standard" picture mode), then image burn-in will not happen and image retention (temporary image residue left on the screen) is minimal.  And the newest plasma screen coatings reduce or eliminated reflections from light inside the room.

Plasmas also have a much better image off-axis (standing to the sides) because the plasma panel itself is emissive and self-illuminating, as opposed to LCD which is lit from behind.

LCDs can typically get brighter than plasmas, which is good if you're going to have the set in a very bright environment.  Also advances in video processing (including some variations of 120 Hz processing) improve an LCD's handling of moving images (less smear).  And the new LED-backlighting technology also improves LCD's contrast ratio, but it does so at the expense of color saturation, which is not a trade-off I'm willing to make.

This is not to say that all plasmas are better than all LCDs.  The very best LCD TVs can produce a pleasing image that is better than some of the entry-level no-name plasma TVs but if you take the best current plasma (Pioneer Kuro or Panasonic) and match it up against the best LCD (Sharp or Samsung), the Plasmas still wins by a fairly wide margin.

    There's a reason that CNET's top 5 HDTVs of 2008 include 3 plasmas (#1, #2, #3), one DLP (#4) and one LCD (#5) - that reason is picture quality.

BTW, I play Wii on a Panasonic TH-46PZ800U for hours at a time and have zero problems with image retention or burn-in.  I know the graphics on the Wii are pretty limited, but I immediately noticed an improvement in sharpness and color saturation on the Wii Tank game (on Wii Play) when upgrading from a 2 year old 720p plasma to this newest 2008 1080p model.

  6. Cnet has a very good video on the differences between LCD and plasma. Since you mentioned that you want to use the tv for games, I would suggest an LCD. Plasmas have a better picture but they do still have burn-in problems. They've gotten much better in the past year and manufacturers are putting in a "game" mode but they still don't warranty against burn-in which is a red flag to me.

I tell my friends to by plasma for picture quality (especially sports and fast moving scenes) but LCD if they want to play games on it.
