  1. Crysis is a very CPU heavy game, so the q6600 overclocked to 3.2 ghz (like me) will get you the HIGHEST settings on a £100 used 3870 or two.

However, the Athlon 64 X2 is NOT A PROCESSOR with some respect, it is just the make and core number (IE a 64 bit athlon with dual core) so to compete with the q6600 youd be looking at a 6000+, but as it is still a dual core it will not perform as well as the quad core 6600.

Just remember to buy at least 3gb of ram (if you're not on vista ultimate then thats all you'll get performance out of as other OS versions dont recognise more than that) and make it GOOD ram, not some crappy kingston value, ensure good 800 mhz DDR2 at least with low timings. (IE CRUCIAL ballistix are very good)

And make sure you get a good motherboard to communicate well with the parts, and of course a fast harddrive.

    Crysis will play smoooooooth then.

  2. Q6600...

  3. q6600 is probably the absolute best processor out right now for price/performance. athlon 64 x2 will probably still be fine for crysis as long as its over 2.8ghz.

  4. the q6600 is a remarkable chip. if you can get it, go ahead. it is comparable to the extreme chips but the price point is very low.

  5. hi the model of Athlon makes a difference, but if your about to spec a new machine, go for the Athlon anyway as it will be cheaper allowing you to spend more money on the graphics card which is where you'll get the biggest performance increase for gaming

  6. Q6600 but at the end of the day if you want better and faster graphics get a faster graphics card

  7. Core 2 Quad Q6600 will demolish the Althlon X2 6400+ Black Edition no problem. AMD has given up on its processor range for gaming because Intel has a million times its budget and it can't keep up. They put the last blade in their coffin by investing in new architecture for its phenom, range instead of improving their speed issues.

  8. The core2quad will be better, but you need to make sure the rest of the system works with the chip, no point in a good chip and very little memory or an old graphics card.

  9. The Core 2 Quad would be the best as it is a 4 core processor. Most games aren't programmed to take advantage of 4 cores but Crysis is one of those rare few that is.

  10. Core 2 Quad Q6600 is better.

  11. hi fiona

i have to disagree with the others,i beleive the amd athlon x2 is a better gaming processor, amd have allways made better gaming processors, its only until intel released the core 2 duo that their processors began to be classed as decent gaming processors

infact the new amd phenom processor is in my opinion the best gaming processor around these days,ok its not dual or quad core but tri-core(3 cores)

and for all round performance the amd phenom is a excellent processor and extremely cheap aswell, for example the AMD Phenom X3 Triple-Core 8450 2.1GHz (Retail AM2+) is only £69.25 inc. VAT from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

for more power go for the slightly more expensive AMD Phenom Quad 9950 2.6GHz (Retail AM2+)(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... powerful and worth considering

               any problems let me know

                          good luck fiona !
