  1. Magellan uses Navteq maps

    Tom Tom uses Telenav maps

Navteq mapping is more detailed and accurate

  2. Hate to say it is not as simple as which unit is better more than which unit will you like better.

Personal preference is very important here as to your GPS selection.

What are you looking for in a GPS that you must have and work backwards.

TomTom 930 is the latest flag ship personal navigation device (PND) TomTom have released recently and it has lots to offer such as voice recognition feature, map share, IQue routing, Bluetooth, text to speech and maps of Europe and North America. This unit includes a 4.3" wide screen display and cost $499.

The Magellan Maestro 3225 was produce for Costco originally and it is an affordable GPS PND solution from Magellan, I would say it is not a fair comparison since it is not the flag ship GPS PND for Magellan.

Some of the Maestro 3225 features are:

Ultra-thin & stylish: The thinnest personal navigation device available combines style and functionality in a pocket-sized design.

Innovative easy-to-use interface: Amazingly easy-to-use, route to your destination in seconds without even needing to read the instructions.

3.5" QVGA color touch screen: The large touch screen shows your position, Points of Interest, route, ETA and more on the interactive map.

Pre-loaded North American maps: Built-in maps enable you to travel all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

1.3 million Points of Interest: Pre-programmed POIs make it easy to find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, coffee and more. Search by name or category near your position or near any city.

Interactive POI icons: Touch an onscreen icon for a nearby destination to see name, address, phone number (when available), and get an instant route.

SayWhere™ text-to-speech: Hear street names with each turn so you can concentrate on the road.

QuickSpell™: Exclusive auto-complete feature makes it easy to enter destinations with just a few touches of the screen and helps prevent mis-spelling.

SmartDetour™: Automatically prompts you to route around sudden slow freeway traffic.

Bird's-eye 3D view: Clearly see your surroundings in 2D or 3D. Choose between Map View, TrueView™ 3D split screen, and Maneuver List.

SiRFstarIII™: Integrated chipset provides the fastest, most reliable GPS position acquisition in the industry.

Rechargeable battery: Navigate for up to 3 hours when power is unavailable.

Automatic re-route: Quickly get back on track whenever you take a detour.

Customizable route method: Select Fastest Time, Shortest Distance, Least or Most Use of Freeways, and Avoid Toll Roads.

Address book: Create and store personal Points of Interest to make reoccurring trips easy.

Auto night view: Adjusts color and contrast for easy night viewing.

SD-card compatibility: Back up your address book.

This unit can be purchased for about 1/2 the price of the TomTom 930 but it does not have all the bells and whistles of the TomTom 930.

The answer is the TomTom 930 is better but twice the price of the Maestro 3225.

Visit Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc website to find out more about the TomTom 930 http://www.autonav2000.com/mall/anProdLi...  or you can rent one from GPS4Rent at http://www.gps4rent.com/

    Good Luck

  3. tomtom 930 is awesome, it's got IQ routing that will show you shortcuts around the town, even for routes that you typically use.

  4. I personally would go with the Tom Tom it is a better unit overall.

But at the same time the Magellan is free, something to consider.

  5. free is always good..my wife has a tom tom..her name is Betty...we love her.
