  1. Overall I think sealed are better but it really would depend on the subs, and personal preference. Certain subs are made to be put in certain boxes, a lot of companies will include instructions on how to build the proper box. Some subs are made for small sealed boxes, some are made for large ported boxes, and so on.

With a sealed box, larger boxes will allow subs to play lower but handle less power, smaller boxes allow subs to handle more power but play at higher frequencies. Not as good for producing as low frequencies as a ported box

Ported boxes usually sound more "boomy" not tight like sealed boxes, and subs can handle less power than those in sealed boxes. Good if you want to produce low frequencies.

  2. each manufacturer has different recommendations for their speakers so just check with them also they will tell you the proper amount of cubic inches the box should be

  3. Properly ported. It won't be any louder but the bass response should be better.

  4. Concider if the midrage speakers are in the same box

you dont want the woofers beating the snot out of them

if you are talking about homemade, concider a baffle for midrage protection

the bigger the woofer the more air movement there is going to be in the box

in simple terms you dont want a vacuum either.

  5. Yes, with the same amount of power, you will gain at 6 decibels, there is a golden rule in car audio. "To get louder, double your power of double your cone area, if you double your power or cone area, you increase 3 decibels", if you have 2 subs, and you put them in a ported box you utilize both sides of the cone, versus one side with a sealed box, and you quadruple your cone area, that is a 6 decibel increase.
