  1. Plus R (+R) was invented by a group of manufacturers. Dash R (-R) was invented by a different group. At this point in time most burners and players can do them equally well. Many years ago I had a burner that prefered one over the other but my last several burners wrote and read both variations perfectly. I have never had a problem playing either type in a stand alone player.
