Question:

What is better for durability, a laptop or pc?

I want to get a new computer as mine is reaching nearly 10 years old! But i do not wish to get something that will only last me a couple of years. I appreciate technology updates almost every 6 months, and so that is inevitable - but I would like to get something that will last a reasonable amount of time (like at least 3/4 years).

I don't play games on it, but I do watch films and run large programmes (many at a time) so I need lots of memory and cpu etc.

I would prefer a laptop - but i've been told a PC desktop has a significantly longer lifespan - and are designed that way.

What do you think?

Thanks!

  1. Upgrade your RAM buy a portable hard drive and stick with what you've got. If you maintain it each week your 10 year old PC will have more staying power than any laptop you could buy.

  2. Laptops are disposable and die with age, Desktops are much easier to repair and can have anywhere from 2X - 4X the life expectancy of a laptop.

If you do not need it for portable reasons or moving from office to office, and taking it everywhere you go. Get a desktop, the price you pay for a desktop will have double the performance for that same price you would pay for the laptop.

  3. unless you need portability or the ability to put it away I would go for a desktop every time.

They give you more bang for your buck

    They are generally more robust

You can repair them more easily because they use standard components (lappys often cram more stuff on to the motherboard to save space).

Even something dumb like spilling a drink on the keyboard....a few $$/££ for a desktop keyboard...many more to replace a lappy keyboard.

  4. Desktops are usually more powerful per dollar spent because the manufacturers don't have to try to spend money on the most tiny pieces of equipment (which are always more money).

This means that the desktop's power will be larger from the start (and cost less than a laptop) and therefore be less likely to be outdated in a matter of months.

Desktops are also more suited for games and vids than laptops are.

I find that a $800 desktop is roughly the equivalent of a $1400 laptop.

  5. Computers definitely have more durability!!!!

They are much harder and wont break as easily!!!1

  6. well a PC will be less breakable, but thats because it doesnt move. in the past laptops have been less upgradeable than PC's, but more recently it is usualy easy to upgrade. a PC will still be more upgradeable, but they will both eventualy stop being able to be upgraded. i recomend HP pavilion laptop or desktop.

  7. seems to me you got a good one already why not just upgrade the peripherals instead.

  8. a pc has longer durability, if something goes wrong, its easily fixable, unlike a laptop. if a keyboard breaks on a pc it will cost u 10-20 euros to get a new one, if a keyboard breaks on a laptop 50 euros minimum to fix. also to get a laptop thats as powerful as a 2000 euro pc u need to spend 3000-4000 euros, yes the difference is that big!

get a pc a pc is easily upgradeble im using the same parts as my 2003 pc system (monitor , keybaord mouse, case) (the cost of those goes to around 250-350 euros) but i kept them to keep costs down and changed the pc internally. now i can play all games on max gfx for with a year old upgrade that cost me less than 800 euros

  9. deffantly pc much betta and quicker got more memory most off the time laptops tend to burn out after long use which a computer wont .
