Question:

What is better for grad study in Engineering?

I am planning to go into Mechanical Engineering and I would like to get either a masters or a doctorate. I am just wondering if doing a hard core co-op program (every second semester for 5 years at Waterloo) for my undergrad will help me in earning my masters or doctorate and getting a job right when I'm done University. I heard it helps when you just get your bachelors, but what about further study?

Thanks!

  1. You're going to dillute your attention from your core studies for the sake of an extra year in the workforce, at best?

C'mon. Get real. Why not just focus intensely on your core program, get the high GPAs so you can fund most of your education with scholarships, and you'll have that much more money in your pocket at the end of the day - which you wouldn't be able to earn back in a year out in the workforce anyways.

Plus you'll have no problem getting into your M program.
