What is better for indie film? The hd-sr7, or the cannon gl2.?

for quality, i dont care about price. i already have a gl2, but im thinking about selling it.

  1. It depends on what you want.

    Standard definition and high definition will convey different messages to the audience. Personally, I use a Sony HDR-HC1 - but I think the GL2 is a better camera because of the way it can behave and be controlled manually more easily.

    I also happen to think the GL2 looks more like a pro-grade camera because it is larger. This can instill more confidence in your clients and the (human) subjects you are filming.

    I am happy with my HC1 - but I am in the market for a new camera - not to replace the HC1, but to augment it. Two-camera shoots provide more editing flexibility than a single camera shoot (plus retaking the reverse shot).

    How about this: If you can afford to, keep the GL2 and get the HV7. Shoot in standard def (16:9 or 4:3) and add the HC7 to your stable. It will also shoot in standard definition 16:9 or 4:3. White balance them together and chances are good that it will be a challenge to tell which shots came from which rig. Later, you can replace the GL2 with a high def rig and then the HC7 and the new cam can shoot in high def together...
