What is better for playing music on surround sound 5.1 or 2?

Since Cd's are made in 2.0 channels ,, I prefer 2.0 channels to 5.1 when playing Cd's. If you have Dolby Pro Logic ll on your receiver you might want to try that setting for listening to Cd's.

Purists would say SACD or DVD-A are intended for 5.1 (although there is usually a 2.0 track as well) and CD's are usually best in stereo (2.0).

That said, if you like you can play stereo in matrix surround and it can sound good too. It depends to a large degree on your taste and how important the original imaging is to you.

There is no absolute right or wrong.
