  1. Depends on the society.  Here in the US it is probably births of unwanted children for the following reasons.

    1) There are systems in place to provide care/support for these children (WIC, foster care).

    2) Our country in the past has had difficulty maintaining birth ratios enough that we can support our elderly population (both economically through taxes and with health/elder care personnel).

  2. Abortion is MURDER. Would you kill your baby?

  3. Abortion. Unwanted children are usually abused and become menace to society.

  4. abortion.

there's not enough resources to support what people we do have, nor those children that ARE wanted.

the "systems in place to support these children" are a joke. they only help a FRACTION of the people that need them.

not to mention joblessness, homelessness, food shortage, etc etc... the list goes on.

  5. Neither.  Both options suck.  Isn't it just simpler never to have to deal with this in the first place?  I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of cases where this is an issue (yes, I'll admit that it's not necessarily *all*) have to do with just a poor choice of actions, and therefore most can be avoided if people just learn to grow up and think about the consequences before diving in without at least looking for any sharp rocks that might be underwater.

I also wanted to throw in the following:

The popular opinion seems to be that "unwanted" children are going to end up abused and neglected. . . and that aborted fetuses/babies (take your pick) would never have been loved and/or properly supported anyway had their development been allowed to continue until birth.  Does anyone know either to be a fact or have some statistics to back this up?  I'd really like to see that if so, because I've had more personal experience with the opposite in my *very* limited interaction with the total population of the world.  But maybe that's just me and the local background -- I don't know.

  6. Abortion. There's enough mouths to feed as it is. Pro Lifers are nothing more than Pro Teen Moms and Pro punish the rape victim. They don't care what happens after those kids are born. By all means lets outlaw abortion so every unwed, teenage, unprepared for motherhood woman that makes a mistake has to go on welfare. Lets overrun the foster system even more. Does that really make any sense at all?

EDIT: pro lifers should pay up or shut up

EDIT: Ryde On I think Proud Stepford Wife missed your memo about supporting her opinion

  7. Everyone who is anti-abortion had better start adopting children!  Otherwise, I don't see how they can really care about our society.  Overpopulation is real, and it's hurting everyone.

  8. Abortion.

I would suggest you read the book "Freakonomics" by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner.

They approach the subject of societal issues from a economic standpoint, with hard cold facts.

The bottom line......abortion is a positive for our society and I whole heartedly agree.

One of their strongest points of proof of the positive effect of abortion is the declining crime rate in the US. Yes, when unwanted children are aborted, they aren't abused, neglected and left to turn into criminals.

As for me, the question of reproducing is THE most impactful and important thing you do in life. But we, as a society allow any idiot to have a baby. Dear God! You have to take a test to drive a car but any moron can have a baby! This is just wrong.

  9. children can never be "unwanted" by any society and civilization as a whole, becasue children are the society and the continuum of civilization.

Hence we come to the conclusion you are talking about children who are "unwanted" by an individual or a group of individuals of the society.

Its proven beyond doubt over milleneums of human history that when the private interest of a sub set of a society differ from the interest of the society as a whole, the private interests always go against the betterment of the society.

Look at the private interests of politicians, so called relegious leaders and so on.

I hope what I wrote can be understood.  I am learning  English. I am against abortions but not for a total ban (as a necessary evil).  I do not want anybody to feel termination of a human life is their private business and a "right".

  10. abortion= less neglected and abused children, less welfare,

Just generally, when a woman has an unwanted child you would assume the child is more likely to be neglected or even abused because of the resentment the mother feels towards it.

Also, many unwanted children are born into a home that is not set up financially, therefore, more welfare.

    Just GENERALLY, not ABSOLOUTLY.

    It's a womans choice.

  11. Better for individuals and society would be abortions. The golod old tax payer would pay for the unwanted children and we already have an overun popultion.

  12. to give birth to a life is always better than to destroy it, doing something positive rather than negative.  Furthermore, I haven't noticed particularly that having legalised abortion has led to fewer unwanted children.  Not judging by what goes in the UK anyway, where we seem to hear depressing stories of cruelty to children day after day after day.  There are plenty of potential adoptive parents anxious for children who are 'unwanted' by their natural parents, why not give them a chance?

  13. Unwanted babies should be adopted by the military. They could be trained from birth to never question orders and to fight to the death without hesitation. Also, having a soldier with 18 years of military experience by the time hes finally fielded in battle would be invaluable. Think of how well our infantrymen are able to fight now, with 6 months of training. Think 36 times that. We would be unstoppable.

What was that?  Have you dropped something or is it the other way around?  Let me guess...books?  Well me too, keep reading and maybe your life will drive right by you.

  15. Neither is good. Abortions are worse in a way because it is murder. But unwanted kids also suffer neglect or abuse, and that sucks too. Neither option is good. Both carry repercussions for society. I have to say, though, that abortion doesn't seem to be helping with the overfull foster care system or preventing child abuse like some people said it would. It isn't the answer either.

What would be great is if people realized that sleeping around while using birth control is *not* taking responsibility because bc is not foolproof. If more people practiced self-control and saved s*x for committed relationships in which they could care for a child, there would be far less unwanted kids and far less abortions. But that seems to require more self-control tham people want to exert. Selfishness reigns supreme in our society. As long as that's the case kids will suffer.

  16. Although both are sad, I would have to say unwanted since I am completely against abortion for any reason. Plus I know a lot of great people who are awesome foster parents and people  who would love to adopt .

  17. Neither is better in my opinion if those are the only two choices. If children were taught s*x education properly (using birth control, parental role-playing for example) this would not be an issue. Unfortunately, religion keeps interfering. Stop it, religion!

  18. Here's the thing, in human history, there was a time when the environment could only support a small number of people, unwanted pregnancies and unwanted children were terminated allowing for overall group survival. Abortion and infanticide are part of what allowed for the growth and development of human society.

Unwanted children? That's pain. That is abuse, high taxes due to higher need for mental health services, children's aid, social workers, foster care etc.

Abortion? Simply a termination of potential whether good or bad, potential is essentially nothing if not allowed to grow and thus those 'murdered babies' have no relevence nor existance in a society made up of people. Where I am from abortion does cost tax payers, but no where near what unwanted children costs us nor does abortion invoke pain like that experienced by unwanted children or mothers who simply cannot care for their children like they should.

  19. Both are exactly the same.  Neither of them are any better for society.

I would only support abortion if the abortion occurs less than two weeks after finding "assuming the test was taken early" or in the case that a woman was violated.  If you abort because you don't want to wear a condom then thats just plain disrespect to the entire process.

  20. Abortion. Let's thin the herd, there are already too many idiots underfoot. Yes, I am exceedingly heartless and cruel.

  21. abortion

though neither options are good, this is the lesser of two evils in my opinion. Society thrives when our children are taken care of and are mentally healthy and happy... what good will come of making a women have a child she doesn't want? This world isn't made up of puppies and lollipops, reality is a bitter pill, denying this and holding others up to your standards will NEVER WORK.

  22. The unwanted children at least have life that they can use to help other people who might be in the situation that they were once in. Aborted babies are dead.

  23. There are much better options than only the two given.  For one thing, unwanted children would be wanted by someone.  Give them up for adoption.  Second, why don't we work on the people who are repeatedly getting pregnant with children they don't want.  Much bigger social issues involved here than abortion versus no abortion.  Abortion doesn't solve the problem about the idiots that are already here.
