  1. i would choose both well i would choose public

  2. You should send your child to a public skool cuz she will b more social  and know how to interact with other persons but if you home school her when it is time for her to bet a job she would'nt b socially ready as she does'nt know how to say what she wants.Oh yea she won't have a lot of frenz and shell be lonely

  3. Homeschooling is better for all kids of all ages.

If a homeschooler wants socialization, then they need to get involved in a homeschool co-op, church, community activities or the neighborhood.  And the good thing about socialization within these boundaries is that you can choose who to socialize with or not.

  4. (this is sarcastic, but answers your ?? more or less);

    PUBLIC:

-Teen spends 7 hours being "socalized' aka:  exposed to peer pressure,  drugs, alcohol)

-Maybe an hour or so learning.

    -Locker room

    HOME SCHOOL:

-teen is free to DO the work in 1 hour then take the rest of his time and maybe: work ahead, use the computer (IM his friends, etc.), take a walk, or just LIVE LIFE

  5. It completely depends on the teen.

I know some homeschooled teens who have no desire to be in school. One in particular spends enough time with public schooled teens out of school (through her sports training) that she has truly NO desire to live that kind of nonsense for long hours on a daily basis. (She was previously in public school.) She gets LOTS of social time--training in a group 3 evenings a week (for 3 hours at a time) then all day Saturday, in addition to homeschool activities and just doing things with friends and family.

I have known other teens who have chosen to go to high school. Something about it appealed to them more and they were happy there. I've known others to do part-time in-school and part-time homeschooling. Not every teen would enjoy that, but she did.

It really, really depends on the teen, and the school to a certain extent.

Homeschooling can be more "educational", but only if it's made more educational. Public schooling might be more social, but not necessarily. I know homeschooled teens who are far more socially active than I was in high school, even counting the social time here and there throughout the day. Beside, you've got to kind of question the type of social milieu present. A homeschooled teen who may be volunteering, working a job or participating in other activities that are not so age-segregated is going to have a far broader social experience, and an experience far closer to real life, than what goes on in high school.

  6. If you were to ask my teen he'd tell you homeschooling is much better.   If you were to ask his friends they'd tell you they all want to be homeschooled because they hate school and envy him.  LOL  Every week or two I have another kid begging me to homeschool them.

  7. I think that public school are better because you get to meet people, and the education they teach can be different and more help full when you try to get a job. And also if in class you didn't get what the teacher explain than you can ask one of your friends.

  8. It depends on the teen, the public school and the home.

Homeschool may be better for one, but not for another. It is a myth that you can only have a social life in a public school. Think of all the sights and people you'd meet in the community if you were not forced to stay in a school building all day. Adults don't go to public school and they have friends and interests of their own. Why wouldn't a teen be able to do the same?

  9. It really depends on the individual child.  Some learn better in a homeschooling situation, and others do better in public (or private) schools.  Also remember that just as there are some substandard public schools, there are also homeschooling parents who are, simply put, lousy teachers.

  10. This question is one that I see whenever I come here, and there's only one real answer: it depends on the student.

Some students do very well in an environment like one you'd see at a local high school. And that doesn't always necessarily mean drugs, alcohol, bad behavior, smoking and the like. I mean large groups of people, large selections of classes, and days on a set time schedule. Not to mention some people just sit down in their classroom desk and focus. Those people do best in school.

However, there are people who benefit from a small group or one-on-one type education. They work at their own pace and learn a vast array of things no high school could ever provide. They socialize not just with people within a few years of them, but people of all ages and all lifestyles.

I am not homeschooled, nor have I ever been homeschooled, and I believe that I have successfully strung three words together sans spelling and grammatical errors. I'm not saying that public education is perfect, but homeschooling isn't either. Nothing is perfect, and they both have their obvious drawbacks. Public school means an extremely structured schedule in which you sit at a desk for hours a day and must attempt to maintain focus. Not easy! You also learn at a pace that can be too fast or too slow for some students. However, according to several different websites I've looked at, the average homeschool curriculum is a relatively basic one. In addition, the websites mention many colleges to which their students have gained acceptance, yet none of them appear to be amongst the nation's best.

Now obviously one website does not speak for every single homeschooler, and some public and even private schools do not send students off to the nation's top schools either; however, the implication of such was that online education is not a particularly useful method. What do working parents do? Parents of multiple children? Do they have to plan out their children's lessons? How does that system work?

In a public or private school, a parent can have the confidence (for the most part) that their child is in school, receiving an education.

I should add that as I entered high school, my biggest fear was the drug situation. But I've never been in with those crowds and never interfered with the druggies at all! It's not always as predominant as people make it seem.

Now, as someone with a very creative mindset on the majority of situations and someone who is more arts-based than science-based, I would probably do well as a homeschooler myself. I attend a California public high school and have had some difficulties, but received all A's and one B last semester (the B was geometry. I'm really not a math person). I can see myself doing well in both situations, but like I said, this is a person-by-person case. Not an overall decision. Everyone has their own ideas, beliefs, and abilities. Why should schooling be different?

  11. I'm a highschooler and homeschooled.

I agree, highschool is more social. BUT I am in a homeschool group!!! We have over 60 highschoolers in the group, and they are all cool! I get plenty of "socialization"!! :)

  12. Ah, the "s" question.  If you are thinking merely in terms of socialization, homeschool teens have as many friends and social opportunities as their counterparts in public school - with the advantage that they are not segregated by class, age, or other artificial means.  Check out the book linked below:

  13. Home is better! it connects teens to there familys and It opens SO many social doors! I mean clubs and groups and sports an dless stress and NO homework and in general homeschoolin gis better!!!!!!!!

  14. Home School with out a doubt! You can still get a lot of the socialization stuff out side of a public school. Look into home school groups, youth groups, and community sports. Some home school groups also hole prom type dances and special events for home schooled kids.

What you don't get is a lot of the negative social stuff.

Also carefully read the answers by those who say public school is so great. most of them can't string three words into a recognizable sentence and the spelling is horrible! What is the entire spelling lesson consisting of text messages now?
