I am 20 years old and have been away from track and field for 3 years now since my senior year. I play soccer twice a week but want to get into better shape by training.

  1. Concrete is terrible for your joints.  Stay away from it.  If the track gets too boring on long runs, try to find a road to run on.  Asphalt is not near as bad as concrete.

The best bet is to find a trail somewhere to run on.  That way you have great scenery and a nice soft surface.

  2. definately try and stay away from the concrete as much as you can, but it doesn't hurt every once in a while.

parks and dirt tracks or trails work well. make sure you have proper running shoes too.
