Question:

What is better for use during the day, a kennel with run, or a running wire?

My dog has grown so big that it can jump our fence, and I need a temporary fix until I can afford to get a new fence installed. I am away for about 6-8 hours of the day. What is more humane for a dog, a kennel with run, or a kennel and running wire going down the length of our huge backyard? (N.B. for the running wire the dog will need to be chained onto it all day, whereas with the kennel and run she will be contained in there). She is a lab x boxer, 7 months old, small build. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

  1. PLEASE !!!!

Use the kennel with run -- it is so much safer !!

Years ago, my neighbor's dog was on a running wire that was supposedly safe from "twisting".  Apparently, her dog was in such a frenzy about a cat or whatever , that she had run back and forth so quickly the wire startled to twist.  When I got home and saw her poor dog was moments away from strangulation -- God put me in the right place and the right time - I was able to snap her loose!!

May have been a fluke occurrence, and I am sure products have improved , but obviously that memory is burned into my head -- use the kennel with the run !!!

  2. I vote for kennel an run. Anytime you stake out a dog on a rope, chain or trolly you risk strangulation.

  3. Easy fix.

use your existing fence..reinforce it with hot wire on the high side.

its cheap and effective, ive used it for over 8 years and have had "0" escapes with no human or canine injuries.

I keep 2 cane corso, 1 dogo canario, and 1 dobie in  a 4ft chainlink fence.  Without the hotwire, they can walk right over the fence, and then the police would be at my doorstep!  I wouldnt trade it for anything.

  4. I'd go with the kennel and run too for the above reason and also as protection from other animals etc. There is no escape if she is on a wire.

  5. I would say the kennel with a run
