If I'm waiting a really long time at a train crossing, is it better to put my car into Park, or just keep holding the brake?

  1. It's not going to make much difference, either way.  I would probably put it in park if it was a really long time, just so I wouldn't have to press down on the brake pedal.

  2. ok this is going to be easy save your brake light bulbs leave it in park unless u want to hold the brake for 15to40min

  3. put it in park and turn it off

  4. i dont think it really matters b/c as u are holding down the break it isn't using up any of Ur break pad. it is staying still not forcing a stop. putting it in park doesn't hurt anything, but if it was me i would go park then u can relax

  5. assa

  6. If it's an automatic put it in park and you will save a little gas. Just heard a car ad on the radio ( think it was Chevy)  one of their new cars will shift into park automatically when you are stopped.

  7. Park. when put in park the gears are lifted somewhat so there is no strain on them. even better would be to put up your handbrake.

when braking you are putting strain on the gears and the brake.
