  1. Blu Ray, especially now that Hd DVD's are no longer being made. Th color is sharper, and the menu set up is much easier to navigate.

  2. HD DVD as a format is dead.  You're best of with a BR player for HD viewing.  If you can still find an HD DVD player around, they are good deals as they can be had on the cheap and automatically upconvert DVDs.

  3. Since Blu-ray "won" the HD format war the question is moot.  However, other than total storage space there is little practical difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD disks. Both used the same codecs for video and audio and gave virtually identical results ... they just differed slightly in how they did it.

In some ways HD DVD was "better" because it was closer to DVD and could be manufactured more cheaply than Blu-ray at slightly modified existing replication facilities and was available in a combo format (HD DVD and DVD on the same disk). On the other hand, Blu-ray disks have more potential because of the extra storage space.

But, as I said, it's really academic since HD DVDs will no longer be manufactured. Blu-ray is now the only physical HD video format available for mainstream movies.

  4. Blu-ray is twice as clear and it holds almost twice as much memory hd dvd. and hd dvds are being discontinued

  5. Blu Ray disks have higher storage capacity as they didn't try to make the discs backward compatible with standard players.  However, it really doesn't matter because the main supporter and inventor of HD dvd, Toshiba, has officially pulled the plug and abandoned the format, giving the crown to Sony (finally a comeback from the Beta loss!)
