  1. whichever ones die faster

  2. Both are fantastic in the air if they are from a good family.  The main difference is in their style.  I've flown Orientals and have lots of friends with Birminghams.  Orientals are a bigger bird, they also tend to do "more" in the air.  That is they will twizzle, plate roll, roll then plate spin, go off and roll on one wing occasionally, as well as spin like mad when they roll, etc.

Birminghams are being bred more to spin only.  Twizzling is considered a no-no, for example.  Some will do the other stuff, but it's often considered to be unwanted.

If you are into flying competition, then there are many, many more Birmingham flyers versus the Oriental breeders and flyers and more active Birmingham flying clubs.

Orientals are a bit later developing than Birminghams into their spin, and also take longer to get into the air out of the nest, but I've also found that Orientals seem to be lots better at evading hawks than do Birminghams.

Here's where my own prejudice comes in - I think Orientals are prettier, have a better personality, and are all around more fun than Birminghams -- but then some of my best friends who breed Birminghams disagree; which is why we raise different breeds.

Both breeds are fantastic in the air; both can be lots of fun.  Simply pick whatever you like and enjoy.
