  1. Get steel shafts. I'm also fourteen, and all my clubs have steel shafts, except for my driver obviously. If you have a hybrid club you might want a graphite shaft for that too.

  2. A lot of it has to do with your age, agility, and strength.  Steel is more consistent (by about a 15 yard average), but if you can't get the club around properly with a steel shaft then you may want to try graphite or some other kind of composite shaft.  Find a course or driving range that has a fitting station, or look out for a demo day from a club manufacturer.  If your local driving range is an authorized ping supplier then they should have at least 1 demo day a year.  Cleveland, Taylor Made/Adidas, Nike, Acushnet(Titleist and King Kobra), and Cleveland/Apex all have reps that continuously go around fitting and selling clubs at courses and driving ranges.

  3. Well it really depends. I personally would go steel all the way because it is more consistent when in bends making each shot more consistent. This is for irons and wedges of course. What is more I'mportant is what flex to get your shafts. I started  when i was 13 now im 17. If you really are interested in this sport then you will change clubs in a year or two anyways because your beginner set won't be able to perform the way you want. But definitely go with steel shafts and lessons from your local pro.

  4. It really depends on your swing type and some other factors.  Graphite shafts will be a bit lighter, with a little more flex.  They are designed to give players with slower swing speeds some added distance and spin.  They have a different kick point than steel shafts as well, mostly designed to help you get the ball in the air easier.  They are a bit more expensive, and eventually you will probably want to go with steel once you get into the game a bit more.  You are going to grow out of your clubs pretty quick anyway, so thats something to think about too.

  5. it really depends on your age most of all. The graphite are more flexible and as you grow older you loose flexibility and distance. The graphite are particularly helpful for senior golfers for this reason. I would also add that any golfer that cannot generate good swing speed ( in 80's and 90"s) is a candidate for graphite.

  6. There are more ladies that play with graphite then men. I would definitely go with steel. You gain a lot of feel. The only advantage with graphite is a little added distance.
