Question:

What is better than Zantac for a 3 month old?

My Daughter is 3 months and since being switched to hypoallergenic formula for a cows milk protein allergy, she has terrible reflux. She has had infant Gaviscon but that just constipated her and has since been put on Zantac - aside from the fact that it is almost impossible to get her to swallow it because it is repulsive, it doesn't seem to have had any effect on her reflux, if anything it has worsened. I just wondered whether any of you knew of any other meds similar to Zantac that a) are quite so difficult to administer and b) worked better for your babies reflux?

Thanks in advance :-)

  1. I am a pediatric nurse working in a hospital setting. Typically, in the hospital we use Zantac and it has been proven to be an affective treatment for reflux. I agree, it can be difficult to administer at times. Try using a 1cc syringe to administer the med into the cheek pocket. Also, try giving it with the syringe at the same time as a pacifier or while feeding. Now often times the Pediatricians order a medication called "reglan" in combination with the zantac. Reglan (Metoclopramide) speeds up gastric mobility; basically it helps empty the stomach faster. For GER it is given 30 mins before meals and at bedtime.

    Good Luck,

  2. zoton i was givin it 2 weeks ago to try, not that i have seen a result as yet, but it smells like strawberrys and timothy actually takes it, about the first ever! u have to get it of a doctor tho not a thing u can just buy of the shelve. the sachets say to mix with 30 mls of water which i do, do that but he is to have 15 mls a day and has the other 15mls the next day which i store in teh fridge. im guessing poppy would be having the same about seem her weight is a bit bigger then timothys. i would give that a try and see how you go

  3. my son takes pervacid it smells much better then the minty zantac that no one in there right mind would take. I have no problem given it to him he seems to like it. It smells fruity and tastes ok too. It also helped him better then anything else. He now only spits up a normal amount when he even spits up. A lot of ins co. make you try other stuff first cuz it cost a lot more then the other meds.
