  1. Well typically alternative certifications are only good for a year or so.  So a REAL certification would be best.

  2. Go to Western Governors University website (www.wgu.edu). It is an accredited on-line university. My "study buddy" was from Texas and went through the program in the same time frame I did (which was one year), but we put more time into the work than average). The program includes a student teaching component. It worked for us!

I graduated and am now licensed in VT.  My "study buddy" is licensed in Texas. She also had to take the Texes tests.

    Good luck!

  3. I would go with what the first answerer said.

  4. A fully accredited school that offers "alternative certification" is just as acceptable as going the traditional route. It has to be because the state certifies all schools and programs of education. So the first thing you need to do is make sure your school is accredited.  There are also many school districts that offer the alternative certification, the rules vary according to the district you are looking for employment.

Post-BA should be through an accredited school also, and those requirements vary also according to the school.

Either way would be an acceptable way to get your teaching certificate, because of  No Child Left Behind, all schools, any place, districts or colleges who say you can get certified through them, has to follow the same rules.
