What is blackberry uma?

does that mean if its in the corner of my blackberry, that i can send and receive sms text messages for free? or i i have to end up paying cents each time i receive or send a mesage.

UMA is mainly used for making calls via your Wi-Fi hotspot. This also allows for messages to be sent, but they are not free. The calling is not free either, unless you are using T-Mobile's HotSpot@Home plan.

I have the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 on T-Mobile and get the UMA display, but call minutes are still deducted because I am not on the HotSpot@Home plan.
