  1. the advantage of blue-ray and HD-dvds is the amount of content you can store on it so basically if you watch a regular dvd side by side to one of those you would see a clearer picture, if you have a HD tv, and better sound quality but the prices are most of time higher. hope this helps.

  2. HD is my favorite to film in, so it should be your favorite to watch.

  3. they are both formats for watching HD movies at home.  You need a special player for each.  Currently Blue Ray has won the format war, so you will not be seeing HD dvds any more.  It's all going ot be blue ray

  4. HD is a disk format which the disk hold 30 Gigabytes of information. The Blueray disc which just won the HD war. Hold 50gb Of information. Soon there won't be any more HD so go with Blueray. The player cost so much you might as well go with a PS3.

  5. HD DVD is no more. Bluray movies are in hi definition requiring a bluray player and an hd tv. In my opinion if you can afford them its well worth it. I am VERY happy with my decision to get them.

  6. Blue-ray and HD DVD  is new technology after DVD Technology. Better sound and Better graphics.... HD-DVD is label of Toshiba and It's unfortunately lost this war. Blue-Ray is Sony's label. So HD DVD and Blue-Ray is similar technology... About 40 Gbyte Recording space and better sound and better screen than DVD. But unfortunately you need to buy Blue-Ray or HD DVD player for watch medias.

Please don't buy HD DVD player beacuse last month Toshiba declerate " We will not product HD DVD more"

  7. Blu-Ray Disc and HD DVD are High Definition mediums meaning that they have much more capacity than regular DVDs and are designed to hold high definition media such as movies. Blu-Ray has pretty much defeated HD DVD (the makers of HD DVD, Toshiba, have announced that they are no longer manufacturing HD DVDs) and it boasts 25 GB of storage (in a single-layer disc) and 50 GB of storage (in a double-layer disc).

  8. Blu-Ray is new technology to watch movies or play games (PS3).

It will produce a much clearer picture with a better quality sound if viewed on a flat screen

HD is a version of digital tv.

It simply means your TV uses more pixels to produce the picture which improves the quality

  9. The question has been pretty much answered but there is one advantage of Blu-ray over standard DVD's that nobody seems to have mentioned: The ability for new types of special features. One example is instead of audio commentary they have video commentary (like picture-in-picture). And the features will only get better. Remember in the beginning of DVD's when the only special feature was recommendations of other movies. Now they have deleted scenes, featurettes, gag reels, and the aforementioned commentaries. Its only gonna get better baby!

  10. HD = high definition.

Regular TV or DVD is 480 line resolution. This is called standard definition.

HDTV is 720 or 1080 line TV (premium cost via satellite or cable).

Blu-ray disks (an HD alternative to DVD, but only playable on a Blu-ray player) is 1080 line resolution.

The greater number of lines meaning greater detail/clarity in the picture (on a suitable display) -- more lines means there are smaller dots to define the image, allowing for finer detail.

In addition Blu-ray features superior audio to DVD.

However, Blu-ray requires you have an HDTV, preferably 1080p although there will be some benefit on a 720p HDTV relative to an upconverted DVD.

The problem for many is that players are expensive ($300+) and disks are more expensive ($5-$20 depending where you are) than DVDs, and there is still a limited choice of movies (less than 500).

Upconverted DVD video (using a upconverting DVD player .. or a Blu-ray or HD DVD player) is less detailed than Blu-ray but remarkably good, and many consumers feel it is not worth paying a premium for Blu-ray.

As for audio, you can only benefit from the advanced audio on Blu-ray with a good surround sound audio system.

Furthermore, the only currently recommended Blu-ray player is the PS3 game machine. So called Profile 2.0 players -- which are the only ones capable of playing all the special features being introduced on disks -- will be out later this year.

At this time -- given the high cost of the hardware and the premium price of movies most consumers would be advised to stick with DVD and wait.

It is highly likely that Blu-ray will remain what it is now, a premium HD alternative to DVD, for those able to benefit and willing to pay premium prices.
