A high definition DVD. It's really expensive. Right now it would be cheaper to buy a PS3 that has Blue Ray than just buy Blue Ray

Blu-Ray-Discs are a new high-definition-format, which means that they have a great capacity that allows them to save movies in a resolution up to 1080p. You could think of it as the next generation after the dvd. There are two new formats, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray-Disc. Right now, HD-DVD is a bit cheaper, but Blu-ray has better support of the major studios, so many people see the future in Blu-Ray-Discs. The biggest difference to HD-television is, that HD-TV is 720p and Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are 1080p. This makes a difference if you have a big TV (like plasma or LCD) at home, which can display 1080p. Otherwise there is no difference to standart TV. Well, i guess i wrote a bit much^^. To give your question a fast answer: Blu-Ray is a new medium that can display 1080p, which means that your picture will be a lot sharper, if your TV can display the resolution.

Blueray is a high qualaity DVD that Disney has gone to inoder to record their movies now! They are supposed to last longer & be more resistant to scratches, plus have a higher quslity color spectrum!
