  1. A bogie is a wheeled cart or trolley, minimum four.  The most common is under railroad cars.  Those four wheeled units, sometimes called a truck, have a single, articulated point of contact with the car frame and are called Bogies.

In aviation dual wheel's were often used for the main landing gear but there was a single axle that attached to the landing gear strut so it's angle wasn't important when it came into contact with mother earth.

When more wheels were required to distribute heavier aircraft the wheel carriage had to be able to adjust to the aircrafts angle of attack.  This could only be done if it was 'hinged' meaning it could change it's angle or 'rock'.  The resulting articulated single point attachment was similar to railroad 'bogies' that pivot.

  2. Bogie is a word sometimes used to mean the landing gear unit, but more like the set of wheels.  Landing gear may have a 2 wheel or 4 or 6 wheel bogie.

    .

Here's an example of a sentence where the word is used.  The 777 is the first non-Russian designed airliner where a  six wheel bogie is used.

    .

  3. When two or several wheels are next to each other like in the main gears of an airliner.
