Another way to say shelf in Italian is scaffale but most common for bookshelf is libreria, as the other poster said.

I don't quite understand what you mean by a "bookshelf in school".

A place where you place books (book case) is called "libreria". This word is also used for book shops. You buy books in a "libreria".

A shelf where you may store / place books on is called a "ripiano".
