José, irrespective of the fact that many people don't support bullfighting, it is much older than medieval.  It goes back some three thousand years or more.

and, yes, the second poster put the correct answer to the question:  corrida (de toros).  Most people just say corrida.

And it's cruel, but worth going once, just to be able to say you have done so.  If only for the cultural acquaintance.
