  1. Bursitis is inflammation of a bursa causing pain.

    A Bursa is a small  fluid-filled pouch or sac that functions as lubrication to reduce friction between tissues of the body. There are over 150 Bursae in the body. They are located next to the tendons near the large joints, such as the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.

    A Bursa can become inflamed from injury, infection or rheumatism. Injury from lifting heavy items which will inflame the Bursa of the shoulder causing Bursitis or, infection of the Bursa of the knee from a scrape on asphalt and, inflammation of the elbow from a tennis or other strain.
