Does business attire for women have to include some sort of suit for an job interview? I have an interview and was told I need to dress in business attire...and then reminded again to dress professionally...What can I wear? Will black slacks and a nice blouse count as business attire? HELP

  1. Nope that would count as Business casuals.

If it is a job interview I guess you should go ahead and wear a suit .

It wont hurt you if you dress up but it could hurt your outlook if you dress down.

  2. Not exactly, but you might get away with wearing it after you have worked there a while. When you go on your interview, get a well made or one at least fully lined Navy blue suit. You can wear it again as separates, over and over.  Wear some conservative jewelry, a simple strand on silver beads or pearls if you have them. No dangley earrings. No more than 2 fingers with rings. Nails in a neutral color- get a manicure. People look at your nails and subconsciously register if you pay attention to details. This will register. No long nails! See rest of suggestions lower.

Carry your portfolio in your left hand, purse on right shoulder, so you have a free hand to shake when greeting new people.

After you get job, My suggestion is to stop by where you would be working an see what people are wearing.

Things are different regionally. For example for men in Northeast suit, in midwest, same job- khakis and button down.

ALWAYS dress to impress on your interview.

    General guidelines for looking professional:

At work NOTHING tight, no cleavage, nothing more than 2 inches above the knee. If you like form fitting clothes, get things you like tailored to taper in- it's pretty cheap- under 10 usually. Wear hosiery and good shoes, no more than 3 inches high. If no one else wears open toes, don't. Some business have a policy about this.

Also- never wear run down or scuffed shoes.

    Good luck!

  3. I would wear dress slacks and a button up dress shirt with collar.

  4. Yes, that would count.

Here are some sets I've made on polyvore to give you an idea:
