What is by naturalisation ?

I'm a citizen of India by birth. Whle applying for passport, a copy of citzenship document is asked to attach if applicant is a citizen of India by Registration or Naturalisation. Here may I know what is naturalisation.

If you are a citizen of India by birth, then it was through the registration of your birth with the civil authorities.  If you had acquired citizenship through any other means, it would be considered through naturalization.

Naturalization means that you were not born as Indian citizen but have applied to become one. If were just registered then you were born Indian and did not have to apply for the citizenship.
