  1. It's good for:

    -Cole slaw

    -Soup

    -Salad

-You can boil some cabbage & then add it to some sauteed onions.....while still on the burner add some white sauce or some flour mixed with water to make an almost paste like but a bit thinner sauce add some salt & pepper to taste & it makes a great side dish to pan fried chicken & mashed potatoes.

-Gołąbki: You can boil some cabbage until it's half soft & half hard.....while the cabbage boils cook some white rice and sautee some onions.....when the cabbage, rice & onions are done add some raw ground meat.....mix it all together with salt, pepper & your favorite seasonings (garlic is optional) & then move to a baking dish lined with a bit of butter & some blanched outer cabbage leaves......(you can form the meat, cabbage & rice mixture into individual patties or pour the whole mixture into the dish to make 1 big dish.....cover with some more blanched cabbage leaves (you might want to also pour a bit of water inside) & put into the oven at 350F for 40-60+mins until the meat it fully cooked. Or another version is to mix the meat & rice together & fill a cabbage leave with the mixture & make individual servings that way......(you cook it the same way). For extra flavor which this is HIGHLY recommended.....you can & should make this tomato sauce: sauteed some onions until soft & slightly golden brown.....then add some bulion (meat based or homemade is best) & bring to a slight boil.....then add some tomato paste/concentrate.....after that in a small bowl mix together some flour & a small amount of water until it makes an almost paste like but slightly thinner sauce.....add that to the "tomato soup" & bring to a boil constantly stirring.....when the sauce reaches the desired thickness (which should be pretty thick) serve with the meat, rice & cabbage (Gołąbki) dish.

  2. This recipe came from a friend of mine, and is fantastic!

    ORIENTAL SALAD

    Salad:

    1 head cabbage (chopped)

    4 green onions (chopped)

1 pkg. Top Ramen soup (do not use seasoning packet)

    2 oz. pkg. sliced almonds

    4 tablespoons sesame seeds

    Dressing:

    1/2 cup safflower oil

    4 tablespoons sugar

    6 tablespoons rice vinegar

    2 teaspoons salt

    1 teaspoon pepper

    Method:

Mix together dressing ingredients and let stand overnight in refrigerator.  Toast sliced almonds and sesame seeds at 450 degrees for a couple of minutes or on stove top over medium heat (watch closely, they will burn quickly).  Combine all salad ingredients, and mix with dressing right before serving.

Notes:  Break-up Top Ramen noodles a bit; and do not use too large a head of cabbage.

  9. 1 or 2 Polska Kielbasa or smoked sausage rounds

    1 medium size onion (sliced)

2 slices of bacon cut into small pieces(optional)

    1 cup of chicken broth

1 large head of cabbage (stem taken out and leaves cut into 1 1/2 inch wide strips)

    2 tablespoons Lawry's seasoned salt

    2 teaspoons Cayenne pepper

    2 teaspoons black pepper

    1. Brown bacon in a large skillet that has a tight fitting cover and remove from pan.  If you are trying to eat healthier, skip this entire step and heat 2 tablespoons of your preferred vegetable oil.

    2. Add sausage to pan with bacon drippings or vegetable oil and brown on each side for 5 minutes over a medium flame.  Remove to cutting board.  Slice sausage into circles.  I cut them diagonally so that there is a little more meat in each piece.

    3. Saute onions in oil  until clear then add cabbage and sausage alternately in layers. Seasoning each layer with salt and the two peppers.

    4. Add 1 cup of chicken broth and bring to boil over medium heat.  reduce to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until cabbage is cooked to your liking.
