  1. Card counting is keeping track of cards that have been played out of a deck(s) so that you have an idea of what cards remain to come from the undealt portion of the deck(s)

It is accomplished by assigning point values to cards and adding the values as the cards are dealt in a game.

Based on the sum of all the point values of the cards that you whitnessed being dealt, which is known as the "count", you then raise and lower your bets, and change you playing strategy.

With sufficient knowledge of the process of card counting, you can gain an edge over the game, (YES even if they use 6 or 8 decks) however, most peopel who attempt, fail for various reasons due to their incompetence in fully learning the process of card counting, or their financial inability to continue to play after a small losing session.

  2. Blackjack ia game of probabilities.  Using statistically analysis, it's possible to determine the odds of winning a hand in blackjack.

Statistically a casino will win more hands then the players.  This is because the dealer plays last, so the players may bust before the dealer takes any action.  The house has the edge over the players.

Basic blackjack multi-deck strategy supplies you with what action to take based on your hand versus the dealers up card.  Basic strategy has already statistically worked out the best course of action.  So, over time, playing basic strategy minimizes the casinos edge.

Card counting is the next step.  The house must hit on 16 or lower.  If there are low value cards in the shoe, the house will be able to hit 16 or lower without busting.  However, when there are high cards in the shoe, the house will bust more often when hitting 16 or lower.  So, the edge actually shifts to the player when there are more high cards in the shoe.

Card counters want to know when there are more high cards in the shoe.  Cards are discarded as they are played, and if you keep track of the played cards you gain knowledge about what cards are left in the shoe.

All card counting systems keep a "running count".  For each low card played, you add a point to the count.  For each ten or ace card played you subtract a point.  A common example of the card values is the Hi/Lo system.  2-7 cards have a +1 value, 8-9 have no value, tens and ace have a -1 value.

A count above zero indicates that more low cards are in the discard pile.  So, an equal number of high card are in the shoe.

That is the basic premise.  You must know values of each card and you must keep an accurate running count.

You wager your minimum bet when you start playing and begin counting.  When the count goes positive, you increase your wager to take advantage of the statistical edge.  If the count goes to zero or negative, you bet the minimum wager.

A balanced card counting system means that the if count an etire shoe you expect to end up a zero.  Balanced systems require another step beyond keeping the running count.  You must divide the running count by the number of decks left in the shoe to get a "true" count.  You estimate the decks left in the shoe by estimating the number of decks in the discard pile and subtracting that from the initial number of decks in the shoe.

The Hi/Lo system is a balanced system.  The KO Count is an unbalanced system.  In the KO Count system you do not need to convert the running count to the true count.

There is an in depth article about the KO Count method, and a free game that assists you with over a dozen different counting systems, including the KO Count.

There is nothing to install and no java applets. Simply visit the website and start playing.

It assists with the multiple card counting systems. It keeps the count for you, which you can show or hide. That way you show the computers count only when you want to double check your own count. Plus, it tracks each card played as well.

It assists you with basic multi-deck strategy, instructing you how to play against the dealers upcard. The strategy matrix can be shown or hidden.

  3. "Cheat" is the wrong word by another replier. A Judge ruled card counting was a perfectly fine strategy as long as you used your head to do it and not technology. Casinos don't like it and would like you to believe it's illegal. It's not.

For what card counting is, it's being able to track cards in a deck. How you do that and for what purpose varies from game to game.

In Blackjack you want to know where the high cards are(10 value or higher). There's multiple types of card counting techniques for the game. Such a Ace and Shuffle Tracking.

In a game like Hold 'em is trying to figure out what's left in the deck to make the best call, based on what you've seen and what you think you know from other players. There's a finite number of cards used in Hold 'em and other card games, so because there is, they can be tracked to learn what's left in the deck that beneficial for you.

In any game where cards are used that is NOT reshuffled after every hand counting is possible. If an Ace shows up that means there is one less Ace in the deck. It can be tracked and deducted from the decks true count of cards left. It's how you know your 4 of a kind is going to happen in Rummy, how you know you'll win the next card flip in Battle, how you know your opponent has to start drawing because you've just played the last Jack in the deck in Crazy 8s.

That's, though long winded, card counting.

  4. Card counting used to be a way to cheat the casinos until the casinos started using multiple decks of cards.  It simply means counting the value of the cards already played from a single deck to know what cards might be left.  In Black Jack, for example, all the face cards are counted, and since you know there are only so many face cards in a single deck, you can bet accordingly on your hand.  You then know what the odds are in drawing another face card (another "10") and going bust.  People got quite good at this and won a lot of money.  You used to also be able to count the timers on slot machines, so that if you knew exactly at what time to pull the handle, you could win every time.  None of that works anymore in casinos, however.  The slot machines are electronic and the card dealer plays with many decks.

  5. Card counting is a method of tracking the cards in a game of Blackjack.

When you're playing Blackjack, high value cards are good for you, since the tens and aces give you a good chance of making 21.  Small cards are not so good.

So a card counter tracks how many big cards have been dealt, versus how many small cards.  He therefore knows when the shoe (the box that holds the decks of cards) is in his favor (he bets more) or not (he bets less).

It's all about being able to do lots of math in your head and keep track of the game.  These days most casinos have changed the rules to make it harder for a card counter to get any significant edge in the game.
