  1. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve is compressed in the carpal tunnel.  The carpal tunnel is a "tunnel" (for lack of a better word) in the human wrist that is enclosed by strong connective tissue (flexor retinaculum) on the top and the bones (carpals) of the wrist on the bottom.  This tunnel protects tendons and a nerve (the median nerve).

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is not associated as much with repetitive motions, such as typing, as people think.  It is actually more associated with obesity, hypothyroidism, fractures, rheumatoid arthritis, family history, wrist shape, pregnancy, diabetes, etc.

  2. It's where there is nerve damage in the wrist from repetitious activity, most commonly from typing on a computer keyboard too much.
