  1. Besides the rising cost of being a pilot. . . commercial pilots are severly abused. The days of overnights over 10 hrs are over. Trained Pilots are seeking Corporate jobs instead of Commercial jobs. It's not rare to find pilots who time out in the 1st week of December. Upgrade times are getting longer and longer and the dream of being a Captain for a Major is becoming unrealistic. In my experience alot of young FO's go commercial get their flight hours and get out. With Minimums lowering trainers at Commercail airlines are faced with unexperienced students and pass rates are scary. I just talked to a friend going to reccurent and he said there are horror stories coming out of dallas.

Just my thoughts. . . and one of many possible reasons.

  2. because more ilots are staying in the military amd a lot of older pilots are approaching retirement age.

  3. magic

  4. There is not a shortage of Commercial Pilots.

In fact, pilot jobs are plenty - and more foreign carriers are emerging and needing more trained pilots. So, while the amount of pilots continues to grow or at least remain static - the NEED for more trained pilots is growing faster.

  5. Wait until this next merger mania cycle ends. With the overlapping of service, merged carriers will be furloughing pilots like there's no tomorrow. That's the whole point of the merging; to ultimately reduce capacity and command more "reasonable" prices for seats.

  6. Its insanely expensive to become a pilot. It takes 6 thousand dollars just to get the most basic pilots liscense (single-engine, visual rules only) thus only the already well off people can afford it.

  7. never knew there was?

American airlines has more pilots than it can handle and the air force is spitting them out like it's nothing.

  8. More jobs than pilots.

Increase in jobs just makes it look like a decrease in pilots.

You can thank the TSA for more people and companies using private planes to travel rather than going through the humiliation and cattle like treatment of Commercial Airline Travel.

    THANKS TSA!!!!
