What is causing my chest to constrict?

My chest has been having spasms. It randomly constricts and then releases for no reason at all. Its usually when I'm sitting or laying down. It started a couple months ago but it only happened once in a while, lately its been happening over 30 times a day. At first it felt like my heart was skipping a beat but now it feels like my airway is tightening up. It doesn't hurt it just makes me cough every time. What could it be?

  1. Sounds like asthma, go to the doctor.

  2. Please see your doctor as soon as possible.  Breathing/chest problems shouldn't be ignored.  Good luck and feel better soon!

  3. I hope you do not smoke, chest constriction is a common symptom most likely ashma but highly unlikely lung cancer. just do your research on the symptoms.

  4. This sounds like it's actually cardiac related, not respiratory. Your heart probably does skip a beat, then it races for a moment to compensate. It causes your lungs to feel constricted, which triggers a cough to open the airway. It's not uncommon, prob not harmful, but you should talk to you doctor about that. Also, avoid caffeine and nicotine, which can make it worse.
